Scripture Reading: John 8:31-32, 36 KJV
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

Devotional
Religious lies can sound convincing because they often come wrapped in tradition, emotion, or familiar sayings. But Jesus did not say tradition would make us free. He did not say family heritage would make us free. He did not say religious activity alone would make us free. He said, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

That truth is not merely information; it is Christ Himself. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Freedom begins when we stop measuring our standing with God by feelings, family background, performance, or opinions, and begin standing on the Word of God.

Jesus also said, “If ye continue in my word.” Freedom is not found by occasionally visiting Scripture but by remaining in it, obeying it, and allowing it to correct what we believe.

Reflection

  • Are there beliefs you hold because “that’s what I’ve always heard,” rather than because Scripture teaches it?
  • Is your Christian life marked more by fear or by freedom in Christ?
  • Are you continuing in God’s Word daily?

Prayer
Lord, help me to know Your truth and walk in it. Expose every lie I have believed, even the ones that sound religious. Teach me to continue in Your Word and to find true freedom in Jesus Christ. Amen.
