Scripture Reading – Romans 8:16–17a (KJV)
“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ…”
Devotional
God doesn’t leave His children guessing. The Holy Spirit “bears witness” with your spirit that you belong to Him. Deep inside, beyond feelings that rise and fall, there is a settled testimony: “I am God’s child.” That inner assurance doesn’t come from your performance; it comes from His presence.
And if you are His child, you are also His heir. God has written your name into His will. You are not just barely included—you are a joint-heir with Christ. That means the glory, joy, and inheritance prepared for Jesus are shared with you.
Think about that: Jesus told us He goes to “prepare a place” for us (John 14). Heaven is not generic; it is personally prepared. Your inheritance is secure—no thief, no rust, no devil, no passage of time can touch what God has laid up for you. Even if everything in this world is lost, your true riches are untouchable.
This is more than theology. Knowing that your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life changes how you face temptation, suffering, and even death. You live as a royal child, not a spiritual beggar.
Reflection
Do you have that inner witness of the Spirit that you are God’s child? If you struggle with assurance, what are you basing your confidence on—your feelings and performance, or God’s promise and Christ’s finished work?
Prayer
Lord, thank You that Your Spirit bears witness with my spirit that I am Your child.
Thank You that in Christ I am an heir of God and a joint-heir with Jesus.
Strengthen my assurance where I doubt, and turn my eyes from this world’s treasures to my eternal inheritance.
Let the reality of heaven shape how I live on earth today.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Action
Write down three specific truths about your inheritance (e.g., “My name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life,” “My inheritance cannot be corrupted,” “I am a joint-heir with Christ”). Put this list where you’ll see it (phone lock screen, mirror, Bible) and read it out loud at least twice today.
