“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day.”
Devotional
We often live under the illusion that we can protect ourselves from everything. We lock doors, make plans, save money, and try to prepare for every possible outcome. Wisdom has its place, but none of those things can provide ultimate security.
God alone is our true Protector.
The image in Psalm 91 is tender and powerful: “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust.” Like a bird sheltering its young, God covers His people. He is a refuge, a fortress, a shield, and a defense.
This does not mean life will be free from danger or difficulty. It means that nothing reaches us outside of God’s knowledge, and nothing is over His head. Your troubles may be over your head, but they are not over God’s.
Reflection
Do you truly believe God sees what you are facing? How would your response change if you remembered that He is your Protector?
Prayer
Father, thank You for being my refuge and fortress. Help me to stop trusting in false security and to place my confidence in You. Cover me with Your care and guide me by Your truth. When fear comes, remind me that I belong to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Take a few quiet minutes today to thank God specifically for ways He has protected you—physically, spiritually, emotionally, or relationally.
