Scripture Reading (KJV)
Romans 8:35, 37–39
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? …
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Devotional
The sermon made this clear: once you belong to God, you are His forever. The world may count you as “sheep for the slaughter,” and Satan may try to destroy you, but he cannot touch your soul. You are secure in Christ.
Paul doesn’t say we will avoid tribulation, distress, persecution, or peril. He says none of these can separate us from the love of Christ. We are “more than conquerors through him that loved us.” Our victory is not in avoiding suffering but in never being abandoned in it.
The preacher told a powerful story of a father’s love. As a boy lay burned over nearly his whole body, he told his dad, “I burned the house down.” His father looked at him and said, “Son, I love you. Don’t forget that.” Years later, after his son wrecked his brand new car, the father asked, “Is everyone alright?” Then he said again, “Son, I love you. Don’t forget that.”
That is a faint picture of God’s heart toward you. No matter what you’ve done, no matter where you’ve been, when you turn toward Him, He says, “I love you. Don’t forget that.”
Nothing—no failure, no sin that you repent of, no trial, no demonic power, no future event—can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Your security is not in your grip on Him, but in His unbreakable grip on you.
Reflection
Prayer
Father,
Thank You that nothing can separate me from Your love in Christ Jesus. When I feel unworthy, forgotten, or abandoned, remind me that Your love is steadfast and unchanging. Persuade my heart, as You persuaded Paul, that neither death nor life, nor anything present or future, can take me out of Your hand. Help me live as one who is truly “more than a conqueror” through Christ who loved me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Action
Reach out today to someone who may be struggling (a call, message, note, or visit). Share with them, in your own words, the truth that God loves them and that nothing can separate them from His love in Christ. Let your assurance become encouragement for someone else.
