“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Peter had failed terribly. He had boldly claimed he would never deny the Lord, but when pressure came, he denied Him three times. Peter wept bitterly because he knew he had failed the One he loved.
But failure was not the end of Peter’s story.
Jesus met Peter not with harsh condemnation, but with restoring love. He called him back. He gave Peter the opportunity to confess his love three times. The Lord was cleansing Peter’s heart and reminding him that failure does not have to define the child of God.
Sometimes when we fail, we are tempted to go back to “business as usual.” We think, “God can’t use me now.” But Jesus restores those who come to Him in repentance. He does not excuse sin, but He does forgive it. He does not abandon His children when they fall.
The question is not, “Have you ever failed?” We all have. The question is, “Will you come back to Jesus?”
Are you carrying guilt over something God is willing to forgive? Have you allowed failure to push you away from serving Him?
Father, I confess my sin and my failures before Thee. Thank Thee for being faithful and just to forgive. Cleanse my heart and restore my joy. Help me not to run from Thee, but back to Thee. Amen.
Take time today to confess specific sin to God. Then thank Him out loud for His forgiveness according to 1 John 1:9.
