Joshua 24:15
“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
Psalm 37:5
“Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”
Heroes are made by choices. Joshua stood before Israel and drew a clear line: “Choose you this day whom ye will serve.” He did not wait to see what everyone else would do. He declared, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
A Christian hero is someone who, by God’s grace, has settled this in their heart: “No matter what others choose, I will follow Christ.” Their life is not perfect, but it is clearly pointed toward the Lord. They have committed their way to Him and trust Him to “bring it to pass.”
The world needs to see this kind of steady, uncompromising devotion. Your family, your church, your workplace, and your community need men and women who fear nothing but God and desire nothing but God. With such people, God can shake a church, a town, and even a nation.
You may feel ordinary, weak, or unnoticed. But in God’s eyes, a man or woman who quietly, daily says, “I will serve the Lord,” and lives it, is a true hero.
Lord,
Today I choose whom I will serve. I choose You. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Help me to commit my way to You and to trust that You will bring about Your purposes in my life. Make my home, my work, and my relationships a testimony that Jesus is Lord. Use my ordinary life for Your extraordinary glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Write out Joshua 24:15 (“…but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”) on a card or paper and place it somewhere visible in your home. Share this verse with your family, and discuss one new way your household can intentionally serve the Lord together this week (for example: family prayer time, serving someone in need, inviting someone to church).
