“We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.”
One of the greatest legacies we can leave is not money, possessions, or stories about ourselves. The greatest legacy is faith in Jesus Christ passed on to those coming behind us.
Paul turned back, as it were, to encourage Timothy. He wanted the next generation to keep preaching, keep believing, and keep finishing well. That is our calling too. Parents, grandparents, church members, friends—we are always passing something on.
People may forget our accomplishments, but may they not forget that we loved Jesus. May our children and grandchildren remember that we prayed, worshiped, witnessed, served, and trusted God.
Finishing well is not only about how we die; it is about what we leave behind while we live.
What spiritual legacy are you building right now? Who needs to hear from you about the goodness of God?
Lord, help me pass on faith to the next generation. Let my life point others to Jesus. May those who come behind me find me faithful. In Jesus’ name, amen.
