Scripture Reading – Exodus 20:14; Hebrews 13:4 (KJV)
“Thou shalt not commit adultery.” (Exodus 20:14)
“Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” (Hebrews 13:4)
In the sermon, the preacher contrasted God’s model of truth with the world’s model. God says truth is objective and absolute—what He said thousands of years ago, He still means today. The world says truth is subjective and situational—“What’s true for you may not be true for me.”
Adultery is a clear example. God says, “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” The world replies, “Times have changed. Everyone is doing it. It’s about what makes you happy.” That is not merely a difference of opinion; it is a rejection of God’s authority.
The same pattern shows up in many areas: entertainment, sexuality, money, integrity, even how we treat our own bodies. People say, “If God hasn’t convicted me, then it must be fine for me,” as if God has separate standards for each believer.
But God’s truth is not tailored to our preferences. He does not rewrite His Word to fit a new generation. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. What He called sin then is still sin now. What He called holy then is still holy now.
We must decide whether we will shape our beliefs around God’s Word, or twist God’s Word around our desires.
Holy God,
You have spoken clearly in Your Word. Forgive me for the times I have tried to bend Your truth to fit my desires instead of bending my will to fit Your truth.
Give me a soft heart that trembles at Your Word. Help me to see sin as You see it and holiness as You see it. Lead me to repentance wherever I have excused what You condemn.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Identify one clear command of Scripture you’ve been rationalizing or ignoring (in relationships, purity, honesty, or daily habits). Confess it specifically to God. Then tell a mature believer you trust, “I want to line up with God’s truth here,” and ask them to pray for you and lovingly hold you accountable.
