Scripture Reading : Psalm 46:1-3 KJV
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.”
Devotional
Life can feel unstable. Circumstances shift, troubles rise, and sometimes it feels like the very ground beneath us is moving. But Psalm 46 reminds us that God is not distant from our trouble—He is “a very present help.”
God is not merely a refuge we run to after we have exhausted every other option. He is our refuge right now. He is not only strong; He is our strength. When fear rises, when anxiety presses, when the world feels loud and uncertain, the believer can rest in this truth: God is present, powerful, and faithful.
The psalm does not say trouble will never come. It says that even when trouble comes, we do not have to fear. Why? Because our security is not in money, health, people, jobs, plans, or circumstances. Our true security is in the Lord.
Reflection
Where have you been looking for security besides God? Are you trusting in something temporary more than you are trusting in the eternal Lord?
Prayer
Lord, You are my refuge and strength. Forgive me for placing my confidence in things that cannot truly protect me. Help me to trust You in trouble and to remember that You are present with me. Calm my fears and teach me to rest in Your strength. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Action
Write down one current trouble or fear. Under it, write: “God is my refuge and strength.” Pray over it today whenever anxiety rises.
