“But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.”
When Jesus told Peter, “Feed my sheep,” He was giving him a mission. Love for Christ must become service to others.
Jesus looked on the multitudes and was moved with compassion. He saw people who were weary, wounded, scattered, and lost. That is still the world around us today. People are hungry for truth, burdened by sin, lonely, discouraged, and in need of the Shepherd.
To “feed” Christ’s sheep means more than simply speaking religious words. It means caring for people in the name of Jesus. It means sharing the gospel, encouraging the downcast, strengthening the weak, comforting the hurting, and helping those in need.
We cannot say we love the Shepherd while ignoring His sheep.
If we love Jesus, we will care about what He cares about. We will see people differently. We will not simply see inconvenience, irritation, or interruption. We will see souls.
Who around you is wounded, lonely, discouraged, or spiritually hungry? How can you show them the love of Christ?
Lord, give me compassion like Thine. Help me see people the way Thou dost see them. Use my words, my hands, my time, and my life to feed and care for others. Amen.
Reach out to one person today with encouragement. Send a message, make a call, pray with them, or meet a practical need.
