John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
1 Peter 5:7
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Jesus did not sugarcoat reality: “In the world ye shall have tribulation.” Trouble is not a maybe; it is a certainty. But so is this promise: “be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Our peace is not found in a trouble-free life; it is found in a victorious Savior.
A missionary once struggled to translate the word “believeth” for John 3:16 into a tribal language. One day he heard a young man collapse into a chair and say, “It is so good to cast my weight upon this chair.” The missionary realized: that was the picture he needed. Believing in Christ is not merely agreeing He exists—it is casting all your weight upon Him.
That’s what Paul and Silas did in the prison. That’s what Job did in his loss. They did not prop themselves up; they collapsed their full weight on God.
You are not meant to carry your anxieties, sorrows, and fears alone. The Lord invites you: “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” Not some of your care. Not just the “big” things. All.
Your midnight will come. Some are in it right now. But the same Jesus who overcame the world is the One who calls you to place your full weight—your whole self—on Him.
Lord Jesus,
You told me that I would have tribulation in this world, but You also promised peace in You. Today I choose to cast all my care upon You—the fears I don’t voice, the burdens I don’t know how to fix, the griefs I try to hide. I cannot carry my own weight; I cast it on You. Thank You that You have overcome the world. Teach me to trust You more and rest in Your finished work. In Your mighty name, Amen.
