Scripture Reading: Matthew 22:37 (KJV)
“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind…”
Devotional
Jesus called this the first and great commandment. Your number one purpose is to love God. And He tells you to love Him not only with your heart and soul, but also with your mind.
Loving God with your mind means focusing your attention on Him—choosing to think about who He is, what He has done, and what He has promised. Psalm 139 reminds us that God is always thinking about us, knowing our sitting down and rising up. Romans 8:7 warns that the carnal mind is at enmity against God, wrapped up in self. Worship moves our thoughts off ourselves and onto God.
We live in a world full of distraction—news, social media, constant noise. If we are not intentional, our minds drift anywhere but to God. Yet true worship includes the quiet, steady discipline of turning our thoughts toward Him—seeking His face “evermore” (Psalm 105:4).
Reflection
Prayer
O Lord,
Thou hast searched me and known me. Thou knowest my thoughts afar off. I confess that my mind often wanders away from Thee. Help me to love Thee with all my mind. Teach me to set my thoughts on Thy character, Thy Word, and Thy works. Deliver me from a self-absorbed mind, and fill my thoughts with Thee.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Action
Choose one verse (for example, Revelation 4:11 or Matthew 22:37) and write it out. Read it slowly three times today—morning, midday, and evening—and spend one minute each time thinking only about what it says about God.
