Scripture Reading: Psalm 105:1–3  (KJV)
“O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.
Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.
Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.”

Devotional

Psalm 105 opens with a clear picture of what praise is and where it belongs. It is not confined to a church building or a worship service. God commands His people to:

  • Give thanks
  • Call upon His name
  • Make known His deeds among the people
  • Sing unto Him
  • Talk of His wondrous works
  • Glory in His holy name

In other words, praise is a lifestyle, not an event. Many believers have subtly started thinking, “Praise and worship” are just music styles or what happens during a certain part of the Sunday service. But this psalm says different. It tells us to talk of His wondrous works and to make known His deeds “among the people”—out where we live, work, and relate to others.

If praise only happens inside the church, then our coworkers, neighbors, and even our children might grow up thinking that God lives at the church building. Just like that survey where college students said they thought God is mostly at church, we risk sending the same message: “God is a Sunday thing.”

True praise overflows into everyday life:

  • When you answer “How are you?” with a testimony instead of a complaint.
  • When you thank God aloud for what He’s done this week.
  • When you share how God has carried you through trials.

Praise is simply lifting up God’s name and reputation above everything else, wherever we are.

Self-Reflection

  • Do I act as if God is mainly “at church,” or do I acknowledge His presence in my home, job, and daily routines?
  • When people hear me talk during the week, would they know that I belong to Christ because I speak of His goodness?
  • What fills my conversation more—complaints about life, or praise about God?

Prayer

Lord God,
Forgive me for the times I have boxed You into a building or a service time. You are worthy of praise every hour of every day. Teach my lips to speak often of Your wondrous works. Help me to glorify Your holy name not only in the sanctuary, but in my home, workplace, and everywhere You send me. Let my heart rejoice as I seek You, and let that joy overflow in honest, humble praise.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Call to Action

Today, deliberately mention God’s goodness in at least two conversations.
Not in a forced or fake way, but when someone asks how you’re doing or talks about life, include a simple testimony like, “The Lord really helped me with…” or “I’m thankful God brought me through…”. Let praise move beyond the church walls.
