Scripture Reading: (KJV) Psalm 105:12–15; 37–38
“When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.
When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people;
He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;
Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. …

He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.
Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them.”

Devotional

When Abraham’s descendants were “but a few men in number,” God still said, “Touch not mine anointed.” When they seemed vulnerable, wandering from place to place, God Himself took responsibility for their protection. Later, when Israel came out of Egypt, after centuries of slavery, they did not limp out broken and destitute. Scripture says there was “not one feeble person” among them, and they came out with “silver and gold.” That is supernatural care.

From a human perspective, Israel looked weak and trapped—slaves in a powerful nation, surrounded by enemies, hemmed in by the Red Sea, the desert, and an army. Yet at every point, God was quietly, steadily in control:

  • Preserving Joseph through betrayal and prison.
  • Positioning him to save many alive in the famine.
  • Multiplying Israel from 70 souls to around 2 million.
  • Breaking Egypt’s power through the plagues.
  • Bringing His people out strong and supplied.

Our lives can also look trapped: hemmed in by finances, health, relationships, or sins we’ve struggled with for years. Praise often dies on our lips because we only see the pit, the chains, or the sea in front of us. Psalm 105 calls us to remember: the God who guarded a small family and then brought a nation out of slavery is the same God who guards you.

Praising Him for His protection—even when you still feel surrounded—is an act of faith. It says, “Lord, I believe You are for me, even if I cannot yet see the way out.”

Self-Reflection

  • Where in my life do I feel “outnumbered” or trapped right now?
  • Can I look back and see times when God clearly protected me or brought me through something that should have broken me?
  • Do my words show that I trust His protection, or that I’m more impressed with the size of my problems?

Prayer

Lord, my Protector,
Thank You for the many dangers, seen and unseen, that You have already brought me through. Forgive me for fearing what is against me more than I trust that You are for me. Strengthen my faith to believe that You can bring me out, strong and supplied, just as You did Israel. Teach me to praise You for Your protection, even before I see the full deliverance.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
